CARNET PHOTOS
Subvert to reveal
STATEMENT SERIE "FOTOS DE CARNET” (document Photos)
Widely used to catalog and identify human beings around the world, the 3x4 photograph requires a "neutral" image, excluding accessories or poses that usually reflect personality. In this way, humans from different cultures, religions, genders etc. Are homogenized into a small piece of paper.
Utilizing all aspects of this register (proportion, framing, background, etc.) but subverting one of the most important one, which is neutrality, I capture portraits of young individuals linked to the Afro Punk movement in my hometown, Salvador, Bahia.
By documenting this scene through the reimagined 3x4 format, beyond creating portraits that serve as "identity documents," I capture a moment of youth in my city.
These images celebrate individuality within diversity, a form of resistance against the homogenizing process promoted by globalization.
